Picture the scenario, you’re on holiday without a laptop or internet connection and you’ve forgotten to update your music or film collection on your iMan. Walk into the nearest HMV store and the music and film is all there. In hard format. Currently, there is no way of downloading this content to your device whilst out and about. Or is there?

The future of HMV?
Whilst BT plots the end of the line for phone boxes across the isles it’s probably worth putting some new thought on this matter.
Graham Bell’s initial idea for the phone was a telephonic piano which communicated music at distances at a time when listening to music was a real event. With this in mind, how about bringing HMV’s music to BT’s phone boxes? As HMV’s shares plummet against the soaring numbers of music and film downloads, it’s worth HMV thinking a little deeper into something different.
HMV would do well to invest in a deal with BT to provide downloadable music and film from a computer based within the old telephone boxes dotted around the country, and in particular, tourist central London. A small deposit of £2 required for entrance to the box, refunded when a purchase is made, would ensure vandalism is kept at bay.
